About me

Welcome to my place. My name is Andrea and this blog is my outlet.

I am a newlywed wife of a US Marine whom I call Stud and we live in the ever-unpredictable state of Minnesota. Shortly after being engaged a little over two years ago, Stud was deployed to Iraq. We were married only three months after he returned and now, a little over a year later, we are heading in to our second deployment, this time to Afghanistan. Stud is in the Marine Corps Reserves but he belongs to the most deployed reserve unit in the United States so we have learned hard and fast about how to survive in the world of dress blues and cammies. Writing about life as a Marine Corps wife will hopefully be as constructive and significant as the writing that I do as a Marine Corps wife. Writing back and forth with my husband has been one of the biggest treasures of military life.

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Spanish. If I could pursue one career for the rest of my life it would be psychology. I love the idea of learning about people and helping them work through their struggles. I also wouldn't mind teaching psychology at some point at the college level. I don't really want to teach Spanish just because I think the best teachers are native speakers but I have taught for Community Education. I wish I could speak Spanish every day. I've been to Peru twice with my old church and learned so much about life and faith. God is present and working all over the globe. Worshiping in Spanish and English simultaneously was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

I've always felt the drive to be creative and original. I usually felt like I had to come up with a project or paper topic that no one else was doing. I love that everything is bigger than what you think it is when you first start learning about it and that even something as simple as worms coming out when it rains has this huge story behind it. My favorite ways to explore creativity are with craft projects, cooking and writing.

I'm very invested in fitness but have lamentably taken a huge hiatus and am working myself back into shape mentally and physically. I enjoy jogging, biking, martial arts and neighborhood games of volleyball, football and tennis.

Last year Stud and I adopted two, two-year-old female cats from the Humane Society whom we named Analie and Derby and, for now, they are our babies.

Finally, the only thing that makes any of those parts of my life work is my relationship with Jesus Christ. I became a Christian when I was very young and am delighted and awed by the knowledge there is always more of God than I could ever realize.

"Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,
Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky."

Portion of the hymn "The Love of God" by Frederick M. Lehman
